January 31, 2011
Greetings from the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism
I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all those celebrating Chinese New Year. On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, I would like to thank you for your unwavering devotion to Canada as well as your contributions as Chinese Canadians to our open and diverse society.
Canadians of Chinese descent can be very proud of the contributions they continue to make to our society. Prime Minister Harper noted: “Chinese Canadians have a prominent place in our nation’s history and cultural heritage. From the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, to the development of vibrant Chinese Canadian business communities in all our major cities, Canada has been immeasurably enriched by the contributions of Chinese Canadians.”
As we begin 2011, the year of the rabbit, I am certain that the Chinese community will continue to be at the forefront of Canada’s advancement as a prosperous, multicultural democracy.
As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I would like to commend the entire Chinese community for your remarkable roles in Canada’s success as a diverse society and I thank you for your dedication to our pluralism. All Canadians join me in wishing you a safe and prosperous New Year!
Happy New Year!
