The Honourable Jason Kenney, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism and Canadian Identity), hosted a reception with Parliamentarians and members of the Black Community to mark the conclusion of Black History Month 2007.

During Black History Month, many communities and organizations have found ways to celebrate the achievements of Black Canadians and their numerous contributions to our society. This year also marks the 200th anniversary of the 1807 Slave Trade Act, which outlawed the slave trade throughout the British Empire.

This event was an opportunity for leaders of the Black community to meet Members of Parliament and Senators, from all political parties, to forge stronger ties that will encourage future communication and cooperation. This event marks Black History Month and demonstrates the steadfast commitment of Canada's New Government to strengthening our identity as a pluralistic society.
