Minister Kenney launches web tool on civics, history, and citizenship for students and teachers
May 30, 2010
Calgary — Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney today launched an interactive, on-line educational resource for teachers and youth that will explore civics, history, and citizenship. The first module of the on-line resource, called “A Fun Path to Learning” draws from material in the popular new citizenship study guide Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship. Through games and activities in the first module, students can learn about Canada’s history and political institutions. Future modules will offer educational activities to learn about the monarchy and immigration. “I encourage students and teachers to explore this new learning resource,” said Minister Kenney. “When I launched Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, I said that it wasn’t just for newcomers – but, indeed, all Canadians. This web tool helps promote a solid understanding of Canada’s history, values, symbols and political institutions, and an appreciation of how ethnic and cultural communities have helped shape Canada’s national identity.” “A Fun Path to Learning” activities and games provides interesting, challenging and fun learning opportunities for elementary, junior and high school students, their teachers, and even their parents. The resources include information on subject areas including history, geography, civics and social studies. “A shared understanding of Canada and Canadian history unites us all as citizens,” added Minister Kenney. “A Fun Path to Learning – the teacher and youth web corner” can be found at: http://www.cic.gc.ca/learn. |
